SUMMER 1999

Be a Part of Our Action Team

By Gail Dryden, President, LWVC

Too busy to take on a big job for League? Wish you could do something about an issue important to you? "In Just Eight, You Can Advocate", is a program perfect for you. You just need eight minutes (or less) and e-mail to participate in the state League's new Grassroots Action Team.

Choose one or more topic(s) of importance to you. Did you join the League because you are concerned about children's issues, health care for all, voting rights, juvenile justice, gun violence, the initiative process, campaign finance reform, or something else? Pick the theme that most interests you and let our Grassroots Action Coordinator know. She will send you information on bills in your specific area of interest. The e-mail sent to you will include information on the bill, the League's stand on the measure, and two or three points to make. Then, you can take just eight minutes to write, call or e-mail your legislator. You will be doing League advocacy work through your interest in specific issues.

To participate send an e-mail to Donna Vaughn of the Alameda League with your name, League, snail mail address, phone number, and e-mail address and, the issue or issues important to you. Her e-mail address is "dbvaughn@compuserve.com". Donna will put you into a list for that issue and you will receive calls to action only on the areas of League work with special importance to you. You will probably not hear from Donna more than a few times a year, but your work will help move the League agenda forward. Sign up now!
