Calling All PresidentsBy Patsy White, LWVC Executive Vice President
On April 25 and 26, the LWVC will be holding its biennial Council for all California League Presidents and we want YOU to come! Hosting Council this year is the LWV of Claremont.
The Council provides an opportunity for presidents, state board members and others to get together in a less formal setting than at convention. It presents a unique opportunity for all of us to become better acquainted, to approve the budget for 1998-1999, to discuss mutual concerns and interests in our own communities, and to plan for the coming year.
Leaders With Vision is the title of Council and many helpful workshops are geared toward achieving our state League goals for this year:
Increase membership especially with an eye to increasing diversity among our membership base.Keynote speaker will be Jose Aponte, Director of the Oceanside Public Library. In addition to many stimulating workshops, local Leagues will share what they have been doing to make democracy work and to engage their local communities in the process. The Council is for League presidents; however, many of you have co-presidents and we encourage both of you to attend although only one can vote. A non-voting co-president may register as a visitor. Presidents may send an alternate if they cannot attend. We look forward to seeing each of you at Council in April. The registration kit was sent in the February UPDATE. Contact your local League president for details.
